Tanasan Pattanasuttichonlakun: An Artist Driven by Nature and Perception

Tanasan Pattanasuttichonlakun was born in Bangkok, Thailand. He earned his Master of Fine Arts in Printmaking from the Faculty of Painting, Sculpture and Graphic Arts, Graduate School, Silpakorn University, Bangkok. Previously, he completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Printmaking from the Faculty of Architecture, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology, Bangkok, in 2002.
Tanasan’s work is profoundly driven by nature and our perception of it. He presents personal experiences filtered through his unique perspective. This process reassembles fragmented encounters with the seen and unseen, crafting a distinct reality within his art. His evocative and emotive pieces emerge from a sincere dialogue between the concrete and the abstract, reflecting the transformations inherent in nature. Rooted in Buddhist philosophy, his art explores the relationship between conceptual ideas and the spontaneous reality of existence, emphasizing impermanence and flux.
While his visual communication remains distinctly his own, the vocabulary for his work draws from a broad spectrum of art history, including Impressionism, Abstract Expressionism, Pop Art, Op Art, Graphic Design, and Geometric Art.
Recurring themes in Tanasan’s art encompass the passage of time within spatial voids, the impermanence of objects, movement, and transformation, all aimed at influencing the viewer’s perception. He is a recipient of prestigious creative grants, such as the 13th Silpa Bhirasri Creativity Grants, Thailand, and “Project Sketches and Models in Celebration of H.M. the King’s” Thailand. He has also received numerous national awards.
Currently, Tanasan serves as an Assistant Professor at the School of Architecture, Art, and Design, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand.
